Waxing FAQ's
I've never been waxed before! What should I expect?
All clients will be asked to fill in a consultation form prior to waxing in order to ascertain whether you suffer from any allergies, have a hypersensitive skin or have any other medical conditions which may affect your treatment, this will be followed by a quick chat in the privacy of the treatment room to discuss previous hair removal methods, length of time since last hair removal etc, this ensures that the correct wax is used and relevant aftercare advice is given.
Your chosen treatment will then be explained to you, along with what clothing you will need to remove. You will then be left for a couple of minutes to undress, freshen up (cleansing wipes are always on hand in my treatment room) and get comfortable before your treatment begins and hey presto....smooth as a babies bum.
How long does the hair need to be?
Whether you have been shaving, using hair removal cream, tweezing (ouch!) or getting waxed elsewhere you need to leave between 3 to 4 weeks before visiting me for waxing. I know it might drive you nuts (pardon the pun) but seriously....short term pain = long term gain.
How long do the results last for?
Unfortunately, the hair does grow back, sorry! Your next appointment should be between 4 to 5 weeks after your initial appointment. Leaving too long in between appointments will mean the hairs are longer, making the treatment more painful than it has to be.
Is it going to hurt?
Not nearly as much as you think!!! Some areas are more sensitive than others, but the pain is minimal thanks to the fantastic Perron Rigot waxes and techniques used, any pain you do experience will be over in seconds, so you really have nothing to worry about.
I have sensitive skin, is this a problem?
No, it’s not a problem at all, this is why you fill in your consultation form...so the products most suited to your skin type can be used. All non-intimate waxes are done using a hypoallergenic wax which is fragrance and rosin free so suitable for most skins, including people who have had previous reactions to wax. Although the wax used for intimate waxing is not hypoallergenic, it is also fragrance-free and heats at a lower temperature than other waxes so is much gentler on the skin. I know it can be scary if you've had a bad experience so if you are still concerned, please let me know I am happy to carry out a patch test on the area you would like waxing for your peace of mind.
Can I wax if I'm pregnant?
Waxing while you are pregnant may mean you are a little more sensitive, but you can still be waxed. Brazilians and Hollywood are becoming increasingly popular with ladies just before their due date!
What sort of wax do you use?
All non-intimate waxes are done using Perron Rigot's hypoallergenic strip wax which is fragrance and rosin free so suitable for most skins, including people who have had previous reactions to wax. For all intimate waxing and underarms, I use Perron Rigot New Generation Non-Strip Wax, and this wax is not hypoallergenic however it is fragrance-free and heats at a lower temperature than other waxes so is much gentler on the skin.
Do I need to be naked?
If you have any intimate waxing treatment (apart from bikini, speedo or g-string), you are going to have to part with your pants!! This is my job I have seen it all before, so please try not to feel embarrassed (easier said than done I know).
What if I get aroused?
Sometimes it happens....usually it passes pretty quickly. As long as you are not behaving inappropriately, I will carry out the treatment as normal. I’m there to wax it not play with it. I expect professional behaviour from my clients during their treatment. Therefore any inappropriate comments or actions will result in the treatment ending immediately, and you being asked to leave. This also means you will not be rebooked for any future treatments.
Can I bring someone in the room with me?
Waxing is not a spectator sport, so I'm sorry but no. Only the person being waxed is allowed in the treatment room during your waxing. I promise you are safe with me.
Is there a minimum age?
For standard waxing not so much, however, if you are under 16 I will need you to bring your parent/guardian along with you so I know it's ok with them. For intimate waxing (with the exception of standard bikini) I will not wax anyone under the age of 18.
How do I prevent ingrown hairs?
Exfoliate regularly and apply plenty of moisturiser to the waxed area to ensure you stay bump-free, it’s really that simple. Products containing antiseptic and antibacterial ingredients are particularly good for after waxing. A full range of post-wax products are available to buy from the salon, and please ask for more details. I will gladly advise you on the best product/s for your skin type. Will my skin be sore following waxing?
You may well go away sporting the plucked chicken look, this and some slight soreness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions. These symptoms should subside over the next 24-48 hours (if you follow the aftercare advice). If you do experience persistent redness or irritation or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please be aware. This is a professional waxing service with no added extras. Due to the nature of this treatment, the therapist’s safety must be taken into consideration. If at any point during your wax, inappropriate comments/actions are made, your treatment will end immediately, and you will be asked to leave.

Does a Microneedling treatment hurt?
There are two types of Microneedling treatments. The first type calls for the use of an anaesthetic cream to numb the area, to allow for a more in-depth, more aggressive Microneedling treatment. The second type involves using Microneedlin at a shallower depth, eliminating the need to pre-treat the skin with an anaesthetic cream. Depending on the patient’s skin and the type of treatment provided, the skin may appear red and irritated for a few days. Specially formulated creams can be used before and after a Microneedling treatment to minimise this effect.
How quickly are results visible?
Visibly rejuvenated skin can generally be seen after just 6-8 days following a procedure, with results further improving over time. A course of Microneedling sessions is usually recommended to achieve optimal results; however, improvement is typically noticeable after just one treatment.
Is Microneedling safe?
Injections are not a part of a Microneedling treatment, so allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. The procedure is minimally invasive, which means that there is virtually no downtime and the healing process is quick. Aftercare is also very simple and can be entirely administered at home.
Are there any side effects or risks associated with skin needling?
Side effects experienced with Microneedling will usually subside within 48 hours. They include erythema, stinging, itching and tightness of the skin.
My face has a few slightly raised red and itchy lesions today, is that normal and something the client may experience?
Yes, absolutely normal. Some people get red and dry skin, others get quite flaky dry and red skin, others tend to break out in lots of lumps like pimples, but they go away in 3 days. So yes, it is normal and is just the body purging itself of toxins.
What can be expected after Microneedling treatment?
Day 1:
Erythema and redness, the severity of which will depend upon the aggressiveness of the performed treatment.
Day 2:
Red or pink hue similar to a moderate sunburn may persist. There may be some noticeable swelling on the second day.
Day 3:
The skin may still retain a pink hue, or return to normal colour. Swelling subsides.
Can you have the treatment in conjunction with IPL hair and/or rejuvenation settings and what should be the time gap? E.g. if a client has just had hair removal this week with IPL can they have Microneedling next week or even the same week?
Not IPL rejuvenation. The client would get scar tissue from a double wound healing response. They could do pigment, but really why would they need to do this when the Microneedlingprovides the versatility? 4-week intervals if they absolutely had to.
What if they have had electrolysis? Is this still okay to use the Microneedling
Again this is fine to use, but it is best to let their skin heal for a week or 2, or they will be more sensitive. It shouldn’t be a problem, but the pain levels they experience during the treatment may be higher. This, of course, depends on the electrolysis practitioner because some tend to cause more damage than others to the skin and therefore require more healing time
How many treatments a year can someone have? I understand its every 4-6 weeks between treatments?
6-8 weeks, a course of 4-8 on average. As Microneedling results are essentially permanent; it is not like a micro where it must be ongoing.
Should Botox users wait 6 weeks before having a Botox treatment?
Clients who have had Botox treatments should ideally wait 2 weeks either side of having Microneedling treatment.
Cryotherapy FAQ's
Will there be scarring?
Typically, cryosurgery leaves the least amount of scarring of any form of lesion removal because it causes the least damage to the connective tissue infrastructure. A hypopigmented lesion will be noted until this darkens with new tanning.
Is there pain with the procedure?
There may be some tingling with the initial freezing, but most patients get an anaesthetic effect from the extreme freezing temperatures. More of a pinching sensation occurs when the area thaws out. Some patients have some discomfort for the first day after the procedure.
How long will the lesion take to heal?
The cryo lesion usually develops a blister during the first 24 hours, which lasts 2 to 5 days. After it scabs over the lesion, healing depends on how deep the wound is. Typically, healing occurs from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the length of freeze and location.
How permanent is the cure?
For most lesions, cryotherapy is a permanent removal. Some lesions are harder to remove than others. In more delicate places a shorter freeze time with repeat procedures may be required to get a final result with the least damage to the surrounding skin. In other instances, a deep lesion may take several aggressive treatments to get a final result. In particular, warts that don’t have pre-treatment may take multiple freezes.
Will there be permanent discolouration?
Since melanocytes are the most sensitive cell type, persons with dark pigmentation or prolonged freeze times in any individual may cause extremely long colour recovery or permanent colour loss even after the lesion is healed in other respects.
Will my wart fall off after one treatment?
Most small common warts will respond to a single treatment. However, certain types and very large ones can be very difficult to remove and may take more than one treatment.
Will my activities are limited and for how long after the procedure?
There are no limitations on activity except to protect the cryo lesion from damage or abrasion. The activity should be limited as one would for a second degree burn with a blister.
How do I take care of the blister?
Keep it protected best as possible and do not break the blister unless it leaks, then apply antibiotic ointment and keep it covered.
Can I go swimming after cryosurgery?
Sure, as long as the blister hasn't popped.
What if the blister pops?
If the blister pops, the use of an antibiotic cleaning solution and ointment is recommended. Covering the area with a bandage also promotes healing.
What are the most common complications after cryosurgery?
An early blister that pops could potentially become infected if not cleaned properly.
When will I need to return for follow up with the physician?
Only if re-treatment is needed or if the lesion appears infected.
Will I need more than one freeze treatment for each lesion?
Depending on the type of lesion frozen and response of the first freeze.
Will the physician use local anaesthesia?
No, the extreme cold from the CryoPen will cause local anaesthesia very soon after the procedure begins.
